2008 U.S. Senior Open Introduces FORE the Troops Ticket Promotion

Colorado Springs, Colo. (May 13, 2008) – The 2008 U.S. Senior Open has launched a ticket promotion to provide access for active duty military stationed in Colorado Springs.  The promotion, entitled “Fore the Troops,” provides individuals and companies the opportunity to lend their support by purchasing tickets to the 2008 U.S. Senior Open Championship that will be given to active duty military stationed at local military installations.  “The Fore Pack – Fore the Troops” package is priced at $135 and includes four tickets.  Each ticket is good for any one day of the Championship.  All tickets will be divided equally to the local military installations by the Senior Open.

2008 U.S. Senior Open 101 Day Countdown Begins

(April 18, 2008) – The countdown has begun.  In 101 days, the world’s best senior golfers will be in Colorado Springs, CO competing in the U.S. Senior Open Championship.  To mark this milestone, various countdown clocks will be on display throughout the city.  The City of Colorado Springs will post a clock on their parking structure at 130 South Nevada Street, one will be displayed on the billboard located on Colorado Ave and smaller ones can be seen at the Ritz Grill on Tejon Street, Buffalo Wild Wings on North Academy and On The Border on Barnes Road.

A Face From Every State - 2008 Senior Open Can Boast Of Volunteers From All 50 States

Far Hills, N.J. - Ron Diltz and Mike Kelly first became acquainted when their sons began playing high school football in Anchorage, Alaska. They quickly discovered a mutual love for outdoor activities – hunting, fishing and even golf – and their friendship soon extended beyond Friday night games.  Even after Kelly moved back to his native Colorado in 1999, the two remained close. Last year, they went pheasant hunting in North Dakota.  This summer, the get-together will take place a little closer to Kelly’s backyard in Colorado Springs.

Volunteers Recuited from 50 States

The 2008 U.S. Senior Open set a new milestone in the golf world by recruiting volunteers from all 50 states and the Nation’s capitol.  The championship, to be held at The Broadmoor July 28 – August 3, will draw volunteers to Colorado Springs from places near and far, ranging from Ogallala, Neb. (283 miles) and Wilson, Wyo. (603 miles) to Eagle River, Alaska (3,275 miles) and Kailua Kona, Hawaii (3,309 miles).

I am not that good a golfer, but, most of the time I can get off the tee box pretty well. Playing the East Course at The Broadmoor for media day was a bit challenging. The course was challenging from a lightening delay and a broken golf cart on one hand, but also challenging from "where did my ball go as it disappeared into the long rough standpoint?" The fairways have been drastically narrowed from the normal member and resort-friendly standards.

Colorado Springs, Colo.- With a distance-control swing from a practice mat on a balcony, five-time USGA champion Hale Irwin "launched" ticket sales for the 2008 U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor Golf Club. More than 100 media from Colorado and as far as New Mexico watched as Irwin, the 1998 and 2000 U.S. Senior Open champion, lobbed a 76-yard, 56-degree wedge shot from a second-story patio dining area to the 18th green of the East Course.

Senior Open hopes to fill void left by International's demise

The loss of The International golf tournament likely will be the 2008 U.S. Senior Open's gain. Tickets for the Open, which will be held at The Broadmoor from July 28 to August 3 next year, went on sale Monday, just more than three months after The International was canceled. The International had been held at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock since 1986 and was the only PGA Tour stop in the state.

Finsterwald, the legendary director of golf at the Broadmoor, took Irwin under his wing after he finished his football career at the University of Colorado. The two golf legends were reunited Monday to launch ticket sales for the 2008 U.S. Senior Open.

I shot a 47 on the front nine of The Broadmoor's East Course over the weekend, which isn't bad for me. I put a string of pars together and then thought in my head, "I am not this good," and proceeded to throw-out an eight.
